The Social Ministry Committee brings issues such as hunger and poverty to the attention of the congregation and provides support for local and global causes and agencies.

Local Opportunities
Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS)
An advocate for the homeless in DuPage County, PADS provides food and shelter using volunteers from churches and other organizations. Opportunities include opening and closing the PADS site during the season, volunteering to serve meals on the fifth Fridays of the month, and volunteering to oversee the PADS site from Friday evening to Saturday morning. Monetary donations are used to provide paper goods and plastic ware, toiletries, coffee and cleaning supplies for the site.

Walk-In Ministry of Lombard and Villa Park
Provides compassionate, effective and non-duplicated emergency assistance to the people in need in our community. Opportunities include providing food, personal care products, and transportation.

First Things First
Seeks to meet the emergency needs of those in our community who are the smallest and the most vulnerable. Opportunities include donating baby diapers, baby wipes, formula, cereal, lotions, shampoo, soap, and other necessities.

Food Pantry of Villa Park
Showing compassion for those less fortunate in our community. Opportunities include donating canned goods and other essential items each month for distribution to those in need.

Night Ministry
The Night Ministry connects with Chicago's vulnerable youth and adults, providing basic supplies, self-care supplies, free health care, housing and supportive services for youth, referrals to other resources, and more.

Grace is going to try to collect 1,000 pairs of white athletic socks as an ongoing project through December.

CROP Walk
An annual October walk in Villa Park where the money collected is used for hunger relief through Church World Service. Monies are used for projects through the nation and the world with 25% beings used for local community projects. Opportunities include walking, pledging for a walker, serving at water tables, being crossing guards, helping at registration, and setting up and taking down signs on the route.

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois
This is a premier social service agency in the state, offering counseling, foster care, adoptions, Head Start, prisoner family ministry, mental health services, nursing care, and substance abuse recovery programs among many other programs.

Global Opportunities
ELCA World Hunger
Grace regularly makes special contributions to this $16.5 million program of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Funds help with hunger relief and development in the United States and around the world.

Bread for the World
Bread for the World is a nationwide Christian citizen's movement seeking justice for the world's hungry people by lobbying our nation's decision makers as well as engaging in research and education on politics related to hunger and development.

Lutheran World Relief
LWR is a relief and development agency of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Offerings of quilts, clothes, and other items have been gathered.

Heifer International
The Sunday School children, in particular, have raised funds to purchase animals to help alleviate hunger and promote self-reliance around the world.

ELCA Global Mission
A portion of your regular church offerings goes to the ongoing global mission work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This supports mission personnel, projects within churches around the world, development work, and the continued witness of the gospel to every corner of the world.

Grace has begun participating in special projects through ELCA Global Mission, for example raising funds to purchase solar batteries for hospitals in Madagascar.

Vision for Mission
The annual ELCA mission offering is gathered to provide extra support for ELCA mission activities in the United States and globally.
