Public Action to Deliver
Shelter (PADS)
An advocate for the homeless in DuPage County, PADS
provides food and shelter using volunteers from
churches and other organizations. Opportunities
include opening and closing the PADS site during the
season, volunteering to serve meals on the fifth
Fridays of the month, and volunteering to oversee
the PADS site from Friday evening to Saturday
morning. Monetary donations are used to provide
paper goods and plastic ware, toiletries, coffee and
cleaning supplies for the site.Walk-In Ministry of Lombard and Villa Park
Provides compassionate, effective and non-duplicated
emergency assistance to the people in need in our
community. Opportunities include providing food, personal
care products, and transportation. First
Things First
Seeks to meet the emergency needs of those in our
community who are the smallest and the most vulnerable.
Opportunities include donating baby diapers, baby wipes,
formula, cereal, lotions, shampoo, soap, and other
necessities. Food
Pantry of Villa Park
Showing compassion for those less fortunate in our
community. Opportunities include donating canned goods and
other essential items each month for distribution to those
in need. Night
Ministry
The Night Ministry connects with Chicago's vulnerable
youth and adults, providing basic supplies, self-care
supplies, free health care, housing and supportive
services for youth, referrals to other resources, and
more. Grace is going
to try to collect 1,000 pairs of white athletic socks as
an ongoing project through December. CROP Walk
An annual October walk in Villa Park where the money
collected is used for hunger relief through Church World
Service. Monies are used for projects through the nation
and the world with 25% beings used for local community
projects. Opportunities include walking, pledging for a
walker, serving at water tables, being crossing guards,
helping at registration, and setting up and taking down
signs on the route. Lutheran
Social Services of Illinois
This is a premier social service agency in the state,
offering counseling, foster care, adoptions, Head Start,
prisoner family ministry, mental health services, nursing
care, and substance abuse recovery programs among many
other programs.
